What’s New for 2024?
The Atlas gets a well-deserved makeover for 2024, starting with a brand-new grille and headlight treatment that further accentuates the 3-row SUV’s broad-shouldered styling. You’ll also find a redesigned interior with a new center console and other small but noticeable improvements. The Atlas Peak Edition also debuts in 2024, giving adventurous buyers a well-equipped package that also shows off a more rugged look and feel.
Who’s It For?
Families with a need to explore. With ample seating for seven and an impressive amount of interior and cargo space for its size, the Atlas easily handles just about anything your average suburban family needs. Going up the trim stack means you’ll find plenty of premium features and materials that make the Atlas feel special. For instance, the SEL with Technology trim adds convenient USB charging ports for all rows as well as a remote start and a remote power liftgate. The top-ranging SEL Premium R-Line gives you Vienna leather seating surfaces along with heated outboard seats for the first and second rows.
Real World Performance
In contrast to last year’s model, the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas features a sole engine offering. Out goes last year’s distinctive VR6 engine in favor of a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This engine readily handles the Atlas’ motivational duties, putting out a sizable 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque when using premium fuel. In terms of power, it’s a definite upgrade from the previous 4-cylinder mill while nearly matching the VR6’s impressive numbers. The standard Atlas sends all of that power to the front wheels via a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission.
Tick the box for VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, however, and the Atlas gains confident traction and handling for blitzing through wintry and rainy weather conditions. To further fine-tune your driving experience, you can toggle through each of 4MOTION’s AWD settings via the center display. A well-tuned suspension setup ensures that the Atlas enjoys civilized road manners while staying light on its feet in the twisties, making each drive a smooth and joyful experience for the driver and passengers alike.
