Drive and Handling
Volkswagen installed a lean turbocharged powertrain as a standard in this new Jetta. All five trim levels include the 1.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine with direct injection and intercooler, which represents the modern less-is-more approach to engine design. Efficient automotive power innovations mean the big heavy engines can trim the fat and still put out impressive performance. The 2021 Jetta returns a confident 147 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Not only is the lighter engine more capable, it’s also more fuel-efficient, with an enviable EPA-estimated 40 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in the city.2 Plus, the available Driving Mode Selector allows drivers to switch between four different settings to modify road feel and vehicle response, with a fuel-saving Eco mode, a performance-boosting Sport mode, a driver-focused Custom mode, and an everything-in-between Normal mode.
Other modern tech lives under the hood in this new Jetta, including electromechanical power steering with variable assistance for more responsive handling, an available 8-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® for more responsive shifting, an available start-stop system for increased fuel efficiency, and an available Cross Differential System XDS® for more accurate cornering.

When designing the 2021 Jetta, Volkswagen engineers had one single focus: you. The driver is everything in this year's Jetta. The available two-tone V-Tex leatherette offers a throne fit for royalty (and of course those seats are ventilated and heated). The panoramic sunroof tilts and slides and is larger than ever. Customizable ambient LED interior lighting lets you choose from 10 different colors to fit any mood. The cockpit connects the driver to a wealth of infotainment tech via two full-color and fully customizable LCD screens, and it’s the first Volkswagen in the US to ever offer BeatsAudio™ for an immaculate sound experience.
Smart Safety
Volkswagen also made the all-new Jetta available with a cutting-edge suite of safety technology, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Light Assist, Lane Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert. All of these use precision laser rangefinders to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. When potential hazards are detected, the system will audibly and visually alert the driver, and in some cases, the system can even take control to avoid problems before the driver can react.
